Editor's toolbar

Located at the top of the program's main window, beneath the menu bar, the toolbar allows the user to quickly access commands or functions without having to navigate through multiple menus or remember specific keyboard shortcuts. The toolbar icons can be clicked with the mouse to execute the associated command or function.

Preferences

Using the preferences dialog will give you more control over the way Web Author HTML Plus editor performs. This dialog allows you to customise various aspects of the editor such as Display toolbar tips, and Backup files when saving programs. To view this dialog select preferences from the Edit menu.

Project folders

The editor allows you to create your own project directories which are defined with the use of the editor's New Project folder dialog. This dialog also allows you to include additional sub directories within the main project folder such as Document, Image, Sound and Video. Select New Project Folder from the File menu to view this dialog,

Context menu

A context menu is a popup window that appears within the editor when a user clicks on the right hand mouse button displaying a number of options to choose from.  

Backup files

Automatically create a backup copy of your program when saving files to disk. If you find you have accidentally deleted a program simply click on File from the editors menu and select Restore backup. Then select a file from the list displayed within the Restore backup dialog.

System colors

It is possible to modify the editor's system colors such as text, background, gutter and line numbers. The editor also comes with its own collection of ready to use system colors and also allows you to save your own themes.

Finding text

The find dialog allows the user to search for a particular word or phrase within there source code. Press the Ctrl+F keys to view the Find dialog, or select Find from the Search menu.

Import/Export

The Import and Export options allow users to save the editor's current settings configuration or load a previously saved one, making it easy to configurate settings for individual users. 

Goto Line number

The editors Goto Line Number dialog provides a fast and convenient way for users to navigate directly to a specific line number in the source code. This feature is especially useful for helping improve overall development when creating web pages.

Printing text

To print text from within the program editor at any time simply select Print from the File menu. If you only want to print selected text from within the editor - first highlight your desired text and select Print Selection from the File menu.

Special characters

You can insert special characters and accented letters into your HTML code, such as the copyright symbol or a pound sign at any time with the use of the Special Characters dialog. This dialog can be activated from the editor's Tools menu.

Deleting files

You can delete an existing document file stored on your computer using the Delete File dialog. All files are automatically deleted to the Windows Recycle bin. If you would like to permanently delete files, please select this option from the Preferences dialog.

Restore backup files

If you accidentally delete a document file, click on Restore Backup from the editor's File menu and select from the backup list of previously saved files.

Using undo

You can use the Undo function to reverse any changes made when entering text within the editor. The opposite of Undo is Redo, which will redo the most recent editing action.

Indent text

You can indent a line or block of text within the editor to improve the structure of your source code, making your text easier to read. This can be achieved by using the Tab key to Increase indentation or Shift+Tab to decrease indentation.

Selecting text

You can select (highlight) text displayed within the current document to perform specific actions such as cut, copy, format, or sort. First highlight the text you want to edit then carry out the following options.

Line operations

Line operations allow you to perform actions on individual lines or groups of lines in a document. The following options can be found in the Edit > Line Operations sub menu. Each option can perform a specific function on a line of text within the editor.

Edit text file

If you want to edit text files from within the editor place the cursor on the code that contains the OpenText command and press the Ctrl+E keys, this will launch your text editor allowing you to edit a specific file. You can also select Edit Text File from the Tools menu

Library files

You can include library files directly within your programs rather than copying and pasting code from other pages. It is also possible to save sections of code as library files by simply highlighting your text and clicking on the Save Selection from the editor's File menu.
